RYAN LITT: NEW YEAR, NEW RIDE

by Tommy Goudge (January 27, 2012) London, Ontario: Ryan Litt is pleased to announce that he will be joining the TNT Promotions #42 Sprint Car team for the 2012 racing season.

The 2012 season will see Ryan racing full time in the Michigan-based Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series, with Michigan Motorsports Hall of Famers Butch Dowker (crew chief), and Bill Tyler (team driver) on board with TNT Promotions owner Tony Nosal. A press release on the AVSS website this week brought more exciting news, with the announcement that Randy Sweet - another MMHoF inductee - will also be racing with AVSS with the same engine and chassis combination.

"I'm really pumped to have a fresh start in 2012," says Ryan. "We decided to run for Tony Nosal & Butch Dowker and go after the AVSS championship. I will still be running my familiar #07 in the Little 500, and in some of the Must See Racing events. Working with legends such as Bill Tyler and Randy Sweet will be great, and I'm looking forward to learning as much as I can from them."

The Dowker shop is now a dealer for Dave Steele's Diablo chassis, and sales have been brisk. Steele is recognized in racing circles as one of the best ever open wheel drivers on pavement, and his chassis have quickly gained that same reputation. Ryan is excited about the opportunity to drive top-notch equipment this season.

"This year we will have a lot less work to do during the week on cars," says Ryan. "We will be able to jump in the pickup truck and drive to the track. It should be a lot of fun, and running the new Diablo chassis with Dowker power will be a great combination. I have some experience driving the Hurricane cars down in Florida, so it should be an easy transition into the new Diablo."

Despite finishing second in the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series drivers standings, and winning the car owner title with his family-owned team, Ryan and the London, Ontario-based #07 team weren't happy with their 2011 season. The 2012 Xtreme series schedule involves still more travel, making it even more difficult for teams without large budgets.

"We had a tough season last year," says Ryan. "It was really stressful chasing points and trying to keep up with the big money teams from the Indy area, all while trying to run two businesses back home in Canada. It took the fun out of racing for us. This year the MSR schedule is twice as tough to follow. We can't afford to travel that far and miss that many days of work for the amount the races pay."

Ryan and his family's #07 team still have their eyes on a big prize that has eluded them - the Little 500.

"This will also allow us to spend a lot more time preparing for the Little 500," says Ryan. "Instead of rushing to get everything together, we can really spend a lot of time and smooth everything out on the car and pit equipment."

Crew chief Butch Dowker operates Dowker Engines in Charlotte, Michigan in partnership with brother Terry. Butch has had a hand in 11 racing championships as a crewman and mechanic.

"Having someone like Butch Dowker behind you is awesome," says Ryan. "With Dave Steele only a phone call away, we should be able to get this car up front every race."

Dowker is looking forward to working with Ryan too, and can't wait for the season to start.

"It's going to be a good year, no doubt about it," says Dowker. "We're just looking forward to having some fun. (Ryan) is a nice kid. He's matured a lot in the last two or three years."

RYAN LITT: 2011 IN REVIEW

By Tommy Goudge (November 10, 2011) London, Ontario – Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team finished their 2011 racing season last month at Bristol Motor Speedway. Now they’re full speed ahead in preparing for 2012.

The Bristol event on October 1 was a career highlight for many of the racers who competed in it. It was also the season finale for the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series, which featured a three-way fight for the title. Ryan was in the middle of it after qualifying third at more than 147 miles per hour, but he wasn’t able to finish well enough in the feature race.

“I really enjoyed Bristol,” says Ryan. “It was definitely a highlight of my career. Just entering the track gives you goose bumps: You enter in turn three and go down 40 or 50 feet of banking, and it feels like you’re entering a coliseum. It's really overwhelming. Unfortunately what looked to be a good day didn't end up as we would have liked it to, and we could only muster up a 7th place finish after a strong qualifying effort.”

The Bristol event also presented some unknowns for the racers. Sprint Cars had never raced on the high-banked concrete track before, and nobody was entirely sure what to expect. As it turned out, the racing was very good, and there is a good possibility of more events there in the future.

“The track was a blast to race on,” says Ryan. “Smooth as glass, and the banking felt great. The banking was a really easy transition, so it didn't intimidate quite as bad as a Winchester or Salem would the first time. The speeds were pretty unreal as well. It made the cars feel like they only had 100 horsepower. You were always on the gas flat-out trying not to scrub off any speed in the corners. It was really similar to Indy car style racing - all about momentum.”

Ryan competed in 16 races this season, recording 9 top five finishes, and 1 feature win, which came at Dixie Motor Speedway on August 5. Ryan finished second in the Must See Racing Series Xtreme Sprint series championship, just 4 points shy of the title. By many standards it was a successful season, but Ryan and the team are not satisfied, and they’re looking to improve for next year.

“Overall our season was pretty good,” says Ryan. “We had a lot of consistent top five finishes, but really never had a fast enough car to take the win. It was one of those years where we kind of stayed below the radar, which is unlike us. I would have liked to win a lot more races and qualify better. We are making changes as we speak to try something new for next year. I'm not a driver who is satisfied with top fives. I like to win.”

Plans for next season are already in high gear, and Ryan wants to start early running indoors and in the southern states. Next year he wants to try for the Must See Racing title again, and race in a variety of open wheel divisions.

“This winter I'm trying to race whenever I can,” says Ryan. “I'm currently planning to run with TBARA in Florida during Speedweeks, and I would love to run a midget indoors as well. Next year plans are to run MSR and AVSS as much as possible, and hopefully I will be running the dirt at Ohsweken as much as I can. I tried (dirt) once last year and I got really hooked on it. I love a new challenge, and the one-time race really left me licking my lips for more. I love trying new cars and learning how to get fast in them. I would love to get back into a Supermodified too.”

RYAN LITT: BOUND FOR BRISTOL

by Tommy Goudge – September 27, 2011 – London, Ontario: Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team have had a lot of time to prepare for the final Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series event of this season this Saturday, October 1 at the famed Bristol Motor Speedway.

Ryan and the team last competed on August 20 and 21 at Anderson Speedway and Winchester Speedway, both in Indiana. Ryan collected a runner-up finish at Anderson, and finished 6th at Winchester. The team heads to Bristol in a 3-way fight for the Xtreme series title, just 2 points behind leader Troy DeCaire, and 2 points ahead of 3rd place JoJo Helberg.

“I'm super excited for Bristol,” says Ryan. “We're sitting only 2 points out of first, and I believe we have what it takes to bring this championship home. We have great equipment, and everyone on my team works hard to ensure nothing gets overlooked heading into a race.”

The Bristol event was a late addition to the schedule, but it immediately became the focal point of the season for many drivers, teams, and fans when it was announced. It is perhaps the world’s most notorious short track, and Ryan is one of many racers looking at the event as one of the most important of their careers.

“I have thought about this race every day at least 20 times,” says Ryan. “It's all I think about. It seemed to take forever getting here, but I'm more than ready to do battle. I'm going to do everything in my power to run strong this weekend. My goal is to qualify up front and win the race. This is one of the biggest races of my life on one of the most famous racetracks in the world. I'm sure there'll be a lot of eyes on us this weekend.”

This weekend’s activities are taking place in part because of a successful test session held at Bristol in March when Jason Blonde set a new track record of 13.245 seconds in the “Bristol Speed Record” event. It included Sprint Cars, Supermodifieds, production cars, and motorcycles, and Jason’s fast lap is more than 1.6 seconds faster than the NASCAR Sprint Cup series record.

Ryan and his fellow competitors are well aware of that test, and they’re ready to take on the challenge of racing side-by-side on the high banks now. Fortunately, many of them have experience racing at other high-banked half mile tracks such as Salem Speedway and Winchester Speedway.

“I think it's going to be a lot like Winchester, but with a smoother surface and a lot more grip,” says Ryan. “I think it will lead to more speed, and hopefully more grooves. With the faster speeds, tire wear will also come into play, which should allow the smart drivers to get up front.”

RYAN LITT: CHASING A CHAMPIONSHIP

by Tommy Goudge (August 19, 2011) – Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team could pick up a championship if things go their way this weekend at two Indiana speedways.

Rain claimed an event Ryan and the team had originally planned to race last Saturday, but they would have missed it anyway. Following a feature win at Dixie Motor Speedway two weeks ago, and 5th place the next night at Salem, Ryan and the team went to Winchester for a test session. Unfortunately, that’s where things went awry.

“We decided to test at Winchester on our way home to try to get the car better,” says Ryan. “We were running on tires with 20-30 laps on them, and coming off turn 4 in our last set of laps, the left rear tire blew apart and sent us into the wall backwards. Wrecked the car pretty bad - almost everything except the frame.”

Friday, August 5 found Ryan in Dixie Motor Speedway’s victory lane for the fifth time in his career, extending his streak of seasons with at least one feature win to six in a row. Ryan qualified 6th, then won his heat as well.

“It was great to be back at Dixie,” says Ryan. “We have a huge fan base there, and it felt awesome picking up another win.”

While Dixie’s Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series event was all about going after a win, Ryan and the team had to remain conscious of their position in the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint series standings at Salem. Ryan entered the event just 7 points behind Troy DeCaire for the points lead. Ryan was able to take 5th place in the Salem feature, while DeCaire had some problems.

“We ran strong all day at Salem, but missed the setup in the feature,” says Ryan. “We tightened the car up anticipating it to loosen up, and it stayed tight. We still salvaged a top 5, at least.”

Ryan enters this weekend’s events at Anderson and Winchester just 2 points behind Salem feature winner JoJo Helberg for the points lead. He’s looking for two strong runs as he chases his first ever Sprint Car championship. Just 3 races remain in the Xtreme series season, including 2 this weekend, and the final race at Bristol Motor Speedway on October 1st.

“I’m looking forward to this weekend,” says Ryan. “We run strong at both Anderson and Winchester, and our big track car is almost all brand new so it should be a rocket. Obviously we are going to need a lot of luck to get us through Anderson. We just need to get a good starting spot and keep our nose clean. That’s the key for that place. We hope to pick up a win or two, and come out leading the points going into the finale at Bristol.”

RYAN LITT: LOOKING FOR A “W”

By Tommy Goudge (August 5, 2011) London, Ontario – Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team had last weekend off, and now they’re ready to get back in action with a big weekend in Michigan and Indiana. They’ve had a consistent season, but haven’t been able to break into the win column yet this year.

Ryan and the team last raced at Berlin Raceway on July 22 and 23. Ryan was all set to take home a 2nd place finish, but his right rear tire was used up and he spun out on the last lap and ended up 6th.

Friday will find Ryan and the team competing in an Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series event at Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan. Ryan has won four times at the high-banked 4/10 mile oval, including twice last season. At 150 miles away, it’s also closer to home than most tracks on the pavement Sprint Car circuit.

“I’m really excited about Dixie this Friday,” says Ryan. “Obviously it's a really good track for us. We always run well and we have a big fan following there. I feel like it's my hometown track because so many people cheer for us. It's pretty cool. It's an AVSS race so we don't have to worry about points - just run hammer down and go for the win.”

Salem is another venue where Ryan has run well in the past, but he doesn’t have a win yet. He’s competed there on six occasions - five in a winged Sprint Car - and has recorded three second place finishes at the high-banked, high-speed track. His most recent Salem result was a runner-up finish in April’s Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series season opener.

Ryan is currently 2nd in the Xtreme Sprint Car series points standings, just 7 points behind leader Troy DeCaire heading into Saturday’s 52nd annual Joe James/Pat O’Connor Memorial event.

“Salem should be really good for us,” says Ryan. “We finally got our big track motor figured out, so hopefully it will be pumping out full horsepower, and can take us to the win. The points race is tight so every spot counts now. That makes it really exciting for all the fans, as the top 4-5 guys in points will be giving it everything they’ve got for that extra spot.”

RYAN LITT: FROM THE ZOO TO THE FAIR

by Tommy Goudge (July 21, 2011) - Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team worked hard and scored a 2nd place finish last weekend at Kalamazoo Speedway. This weekend the team heads to another Michigan track that has been good to them in the past - Berlin Raceway - for an Auto Value Super Sprints series race during Berlin Fair week.

Ryan was 6th fastest in time trials at Kalamazoo, and parlayed that into a 2nd place run in the feature. The team was very busy between the heat race and feature though:

"We had a really good run at Kalamazoo," says Ryan. "I owe it all to my team. We had a rear end break in the heat race, and they swapped it just in time for the feature."

Ryan held off Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series points leader Troy DeCaire for much of the race, and is now just seven markers behind. The next Xtreme series event is coming up on August 6 at Salem Speedway.

"The car started off really good," says Ryan. "It loosened up as the race went on, but we still came home 2nd and had a really good points day. The points race is going to be a close one this year, and it's anyones to win. We're going to run as strong and as consistent as possible, and hope to bring home the top spot."

This weekend Ryan will switch back to the AVSS tour to compete at Berlin Raceway, a Grand Rapids-area track where he's seen success in the past. Most recently, he finished 4th there on June 4 with the Xtreme Sprint Car series.

"This weekend should be a really fun one," says Ryan. "Two nights of racing at Berlin, and I'm sure in front of a packed house as the fair is going on all week."

The Xtreme series uses American Racer tires, while AVSS is on the more traditional Hoosier tire. Ryan and some other teams will need to make a few changes to stay fast this weekend.

"We are back to the Hoosier tires so that will be a little different for us," says Ryan. "We'll have more grip, but also a little more tire wear. Hope to bring home a win - we're about due."

RYAN LITT: CLEANED UP & HEADING FOR THE ZOO

By Tommy Goudge (July 15, 2011) London, Ontario – Ryan Litt started his first race on a dirt track in over six years last Friday night, driving a Glenn Styres-owned machine at Ohsweken Speedway. He learned a lot and wound up with a 12th place finish after surviving a close call early in the feature. This weekend he and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team will get back on the tarmac for a Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint series event at Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Ryan has been to “The Zoo” several times, most recently on July 17, 2010 when he finished 6th. Ryan is currently 2nd in the Xtreme Sprint series standings, nine points behind leader Troy DeCaire.

“I’m looking forward to getting back racing with MSR,” says Ryan. “We are sitting nicely in the point standings, so hopefully we can run a good race and bring home a top three. We have struggled a bit at this track in the past, but we're starting to get the car hooked up on the bullrings.”

Ryan and the team made the relatively short trip to Ohsweken Speedway last Friday. The track is located near Brantford, Ontario, and features weekly Sprint Car racing on Friday nights.

“I had a lot of fun at Ohsweken last week,” says Ryan. “The facility is first class, and it was nice to race so close to home for a change. I will be back there again a few more times this year.”

The nature of dirt track racing puts practice time at a premium. Ryan had just a few laps on the track to get acclimated before it was time for heat racing. He made up one spot and finished 5th in his heat race behind car owner Styres. He started 14th in the feature, but almost didn’t complete a lap when several cars got together in front of him. Fortunately Ryan was able to restart at the back of the pack and came home with a 12th place finish.

“It took me awhile to figure out how to get fast in the car,” says Ryan. “It's a lot different from asphalt. Should be a lot better next time.”

by Tommy Goudge (July 8, 2011) London, Ontario - Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team have been pounding the pavement for quite a few years now, but Ryan will go back to his dirt track roots on Friday night, racing a 360 Sprint Car for owner Glenn Styres in the Corr/Pak Merchandising division at Ohsweken Speedway.

While this was supposed to be an off-weekend after 3 straight nights of pavement racing in the Midwest in the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series, Ryan is definitely looking forward to spending some time at a race track instead.

"I'm super excited with this opportunity to drive for Glenn at Ohsweken," says Ryan. "It's been a goal of mine for awhile to get on the dirt and see how well I do. I like both surfaces, and any chance I get to race on dirt, I jump on it."

Ryan has never raced a Sprint Car on dirt, but he's no stranger to victory lane at dirt tracks. He has won features on dirt both in Micro Sprints, and in the USAC Ford Focus Midget series.

"I really miss running the Midget on all the Indiana bullrings," says Ryan. "They were some of the best times I've had racing. I'm looking to have some fun this Friday, catch on quick, and bring home a good finish."

Ryan does have lots of experience racing winged Sprint Cars on pavement, but dirt tracks present entirely different challenges. Chassis, tires, and engines are just a few things that are completely different between dirt and pavement Sprint Cars.

"The biggest change I'm going to have to overcome will be the car doing wheelies, and ripping tear-offs constantly," says Ryan. "I guarantee it'll be exciting - a pavement 410 driver in a dirt 360!"

Ryan scored top 5 finishes at both Dells Raceway Park and Rockford Speedway last weekend, and now sits 2nd in the Xtreme series points standings, 9 points behind defending champ Troy DeCaire.

"We had a pretty solid weekend - definitely good for points," says Ryan. "Dells went well. We had a good qualifying lap, and ran strong in the race. The top 4 were all nose-to-tail and any one of us could have won. At Rockford we struggled a bit in qualifying with motor issues, and we couldn't get it figured out all day. (We) qualified decent and had a pretty good run in the feature. The car was super tight, and made it difficult to move up much more."

The next race in the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series is scheduled for Saturday, July 16 at Michigan's Kalamazoo Speedway.

LITT'S LOWDOWN Ryan's last dirt track action was indoors at the Southern Illinois Center in DuQuoin, Illinois on February 19, 2005.

Ryan Litt: Busy On The Bullrings

By Tommy Goudge (June 29, 2011) London, Ontario: The last couple of weeks have been tough for Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team. Tire problems cost them a good finish at Toledo on June 17, rain put a damper on things – again – at Winchester on June 19, and an officiating mistake caused a crash at Auto City on June 25. Ryan and the team will be back in action this weekend, looking to bounce back in three Midwest events in the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car series.

Ryan and his competitors will race this Friday and Saturday at the Dells Raceway Park, where the Must See Racing series concluded in September last year. Ryan started 8th in that feature race – his first at the Wisconsin 1/3 mile – and was battling for 3rd when a caution flag came out. The setup under the #07 was better suited to long green flag runs, and Ryan fell back on the restart, eventually settling for 5th.

Ryan and the team want to finish well this weekend, and move up in the series standings too. Ryan is currently tied for 5th in the championship standings, 13 points behind leader Jacob Wilson.

“I thought it was a really nice facility, with some great fans,” says Ryan of Dells. “We had a pretty average car there last year, so hopefully we can hit the setup and bring home a top 3.”

The Xtreme Sprint Series will head 120 miles south to the Rockford Speedway on Sunday night, racing at that famed high-banked 1/4 mile for the first time. Rockford Speedway opened in 1948, and has been a favourite of stock car fans and drivers for many years. Winged Sprint Cars made their debut at Rockford in 2004, when ageless Hank Lower picked up the feature win in a HOSS series race.

“I don’t know much about Rockford, so we’re going to have to learn pretty quickly what the car likes for that track,” says Ryan. “The biggest battle all weekend is going to be with mother nature. Let’s just hope that ‘R’ word stays away.”

LITT’S LOWDOWN
Sunday’s Rockford Speedway visit will be Ryan’s first start outdoors in Illinois. All his previous races in the Land of Lincoln took place inside DuQuoin’s Southern Illinois Center.

RYAN LITT: HIGH-BANKED HOLIDAY

by Tommy Goudge (June 16, 2011) London, Ontario – Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team had last weekend off, following a 4th place at Berlin Raceway on June 4. This weekend they’ll get back in action with races at Toledo Speedway on Friday, and Winchester Speedway on Sunday.

Many drivers and teams found trouble getting a grip at Berlin on the new spec tire for the Must See Racing series. Qualifying times were well off track-record pace, but were very close throughout the field. Ryan’s time of 13.332 seconds placed him 5th in the time trial session, but less than one tenth of a second off Jason Cox's fast time.

"It was real greasy," says Ryan. "With the harder (tire) compound all of us were fighting for grip."

Ryan came home 4th in the feature at Berlin, and finds himself 3rd in the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car Series standings heading into Sunday's Winchester event. Friday at Toledo will mark his 1st start of the season with the Auto Value/Bumper Super Sprints tour. The two high-banked venues are amoung the fastest Ryan and his fellow Sprint Car competitors visit each season.

"Two of my favourite tracks!" says Ryan. "This weekend's average speed is about 140 miles per hour."

Ryan and the team have run well at both tracks in the past, especially at Toledo. Ryan was in contention for the win there last year, before settling for the runner-up spot behind Jason Blonde.

Ryan Litt: Sorting The Kinks Out

By Tommy Goudge (June 3, 2011) London, Ontario – Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team had another learning experience in the Little 500 at Anderson Speedway, and emerged with one of their best runs ever in that prestigious event. This weekend they’ll be back in action at Berlin Raceway.

Activities surrounding the Little 500 actually go on throughout the month of May, but for the racers the Little 500 begins on Wednesday with practice for the wingless Little 500 Sprint Cars, and racing for the winged Sprint Cars with the running of the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series 60 lap feature.

Threatening weather on Wednesday forced track officials to rush the Xtreme event along, and they were getting ready to start the feature when a storm rolled through and cancelled the rest of the program. That event is rescheduled for August 20.

Thursday was “Pole Day” at Anderson, and weather again caused issues. Most of the time trial session did get finished though, and Ryan’s 4-lap time of 44.943 seconds ended up slotting him 14th in the starting grid for Saturday night’s big race.

“We should have been better,” said Ryan of his time trial run. “(The) car was really tight and we didn’t want to call off the attempt, because the rain was coming. We’ll be good in the race though.”

More weather problems confronted racers on Saturday; Heavy rain and lightning moved through Anderson at dinnertime, and pushed the scheduled start of the race back to 10pm. Just as drivers were getting ready to strap in again, more rain and lightning moved through the area. The race could’t be pushed back anymore, and instead was moved to Sunday night.

Thankfully, the sky was clear over the speedway on Sunday, and Ryan and the team were indeed good in the race as he promised. Ryan ran in the top 5 for most of the gruelling 500 lap affair, completing a career-high 497 laps when all was said and done, good enough for 5th in the final rundown.

“The car was so loose after the first stop,” said Ryan. “We could have done better. The car was great at the beginning and end. If it wasn’t for a loose car in the middle of the race, we might have had a top 2 (finish).”

This year’s Little 500 was Ryan’s seventh, and he finished in the top 5 for the third time in four years. He has been one of the most consistent drivers in the event since he began running it, and has finished worse than 11th only once. Although it wasn’t a career-best finish in the Little 500, it was arguably one of his best runs there.

“We’re starting to sort the kinks out now,” said Ryan after the race. “We’ll get it soon.”

Ryan and the rest of his Sprint Car competitors don’t have much time to recover from their busy week in the Hoosier state. They’ll have wings back on this Saturday for a Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Car Series race at one of Ryan’s favourite tracks – Berlin Raceway in Grand Rapids, Michigan. Berlin is a place that has been good to Ryan over the years: He’s won there twice, and recorded 2nd and 3rd place finishes at the 7/16 mile oval last season.

Saturday’s event begins a busy month of June for Ryan and the BS&B team. Along with the Berlin show, they’ll also travel to Ohio for the “Fastest Short Track Show in the World” at Toledo Speedway, back to Indiana for the rescheduled “King of Wings” at Winchester Speedway, and back to Michigan for the “Must See Twin 20’s” at Auto City Speedway.

RYAN LITT: ASPIRATIONS TO THE THRONE

by Tommy Goudge (May 12, 2011) – Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team started their 2011 season at the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series opener at Salem last month. Now they’re ready to compete in the “King of the Wings” event coming up this Sunday at Indiana’s legendary Winchester Speedway.

Ryan started the season on the right foot with a 2nd place finish at Salem, and enters the weekend tied for 3rd in the Xtreme Sprint Series points standings. Winchester is another of the high-speed, high-banked tracks that Ryan loves to race on, but he and the #07 team have had their share of bad luck at the historic speedway.

Last year’s King of the Wings event was another chapter in that bad luck book. Ryan started 10th in the feature race, and moved through the field quickly to challenge for the runner-up spot until magneto problems forced him out of the race.

“I’m pumped,” says Ryan. “We have the worst luck at this track. (I) really hope the car stays together, and we can run strong.”

Located 90 miles northeast of Indianapolis, Winchester has been home to auto racing since 1916. The 37 degree banking in the corners makes them some of the steepest in all of motorsports.

RYAN LITT: SPRINGING UP AT SALEM

By Tommy Goudge (April 7, 2010) - Ryan Litt and the #07 BS&B Radiator Sprint Car team suffered through a cold winter with record snowfall in the London area, and they’re ready to go racing. Their first event of the 2011 season is the ‘Winged Sprint Spectacular’ this Sunday at Indiana’s famed Salem Speedway.

Salem is one of Ryan’s favourite tracks. He’s competed there on five occasions - four in a winged Sprint Car - and has recorded two second place finishes at the high-banked, high-speed track.

The #07 was a contender in both Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series events last season, but didn’t finish well due to engine problems in April, and a collision with a lapped car while leading in August.

“We're really excited to kick off the 2011 season,” says Ryan. “Our car is fresh and ready to go, and we're packing another 80 horsepower, so hopefully we can start the year off right with a strong finish. The car is always good at Salem - we just seem to run into bad luck (there).”

This year marks the second full season for the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series. Ryan and the #07 team finished 4th in the championship chase last year, despite some problems along the way. This year several high-profile drivers will join the already competitive Must See Racing ranks, including Bobby Santos III, and Davey Hamilton.

“The series is going to be tough this year, with a lot of big name drivers coming in to run,” says Ryan. “That is good for us. It makes us step our game up, and become a better team.”

The Must See Racing series changed tire rules over the offseason, and now mandate the American Racer brand on all four corners. The change was made with the intention of reducing tire costs for all teams on the tour.

“The new tire should be pretty interesting,” says Ryan. “Reports as of now are that they actually get faster with more laps. The new rule is going to force drivers to be really smart with their strategy, deciding when to charge forward and make passes. I have no idea what it's going to be like. We're going to have to learn pretty quickly.”

The Salem event will be taped for later broadcast on Comcast in over ninety million U.S. households, and will also be available online on-demand on the Must See Racing website: www.MustSeeRacing.com

RYAN LITT: BERLIN BOUND

by Tommy Goudge (September 24, 2010) – London, Ontario’s Ryan Litt and the #07L BS&B Radiators/OTC Tools Sprint Car team will be back on track this Saturday at Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan. The team had last weekend off after a 5th place finish at the Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin on September 11.

The inaugural Must See Racing Extreme Sprint Series season championship race was held at Dells, and Ryan’s goal was to get a good finish and remain 4th in the series standings. This race was Ryan and the team’s first visit to the 1/3 mile track, and they came out of qualifying with the 3rd fastest time.

“It was a nice facility and a fun track,” says Ryan. “We struggled all day in practice getting forward bite. We threw everything at the car and ended up laying down some good numbers in qualifying.”

Fast qualifier Dave Baumgartner rolled a 10 on the inversion dice, meaning Ryan started 8th in the feature.

“The race was a lot of fun,” says Ryan. “We were up to 4th and side by side with Tim Cox in 3rd place when the caution flew. Jay (Jason Blonde) and I were having some real good battles. He was working good up top, whereas I was good right on the white line.”

The setup on Ryan’s car was better on long runs, which would have worked out well if the 50 lap feature had gone green all the way.

“My car would take 6-7 laps to come to me,” says Ryan. “On restarts it was super tight. Unfortunately during the last 25 laps there were 3 or 4 cautions, so I could never really mount a charge and fell back to 5th.”

This weekend’s event at Berlin Raceway is a non-points invitational for the Must See Racing series. Ryan is looking forward to racing at one of his favourite venues again, as well as seeing friends from the ISMA Supermodified series, USAC Regional Midget series, and Berlin’s Modified division.

“I’m really excited about this weekend,” says Ryan. “This is one of my favourite events and I was disappointed that we didn't run it last year. Sprint Cars, Supermodifeds, Modifieds, and Midgets - as a fan you can't beat that.”

Ryan’s most recent race at Berlin was just a few weeks ago, on Labour Day weekend. He finished second to fellow Canadian Mike Ling in that event, and has recorded two feature wins at the 7/16 mile track in his career.

“I'm glad we got to run there a few weeks ago,” says Ryan. “Now we know exactly what the car likes during the day, and at night. Hopefully we can correct our mistakes from the last event at Berlin and end the season with quick time and a win. That would be great.”

RYAN LITT: BACK TO DAIRYLAND

by Tommy Goudge (September 10, 2010) - Ryan Litt and the #07L BS&B Radiator/OTC Tools Sprint Car team spent Labour Day weekend in Michigan. This weekend they're headed even further West of their London, Ontario base - to Wisconsin.

Saturday's event at Dells Raceway Park will be the final race in the Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series championship chase. Ryan is currently fourth in the standings, and has a shot at catching Jimmy McCune in third. The race will be the first for Ryan at the 1/3 mile located in Wisconsin Dells.

Last weekend featured a Friday/Saturday doubleheader for Ryan and the team with the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series at Dixie Motor Speedway and Berlin Raceway. Ryan went into the Dixie race looking to sweep the season there, having won two features at the high-banked 4/10 mile already this year.

"We had a pretty good weekend overall", says Ryan. "At Dixie we had a fast car all day - qualified 1st and rolled a 10 invert, which ended up hurting us in the end."

Ryan was not able to move up through the field at Dixie and settled for a top five.

"The weather was cool and windy so we struggled in traffic and it was really difficult to pass," says Ryan. "We only came up to 5th in the main and we passed the most cars, so it was just one of those races where most of the drivers really couldn't move anywhere."

Berlin is one of Ryan's favourite tracks, and a place where he's claimed two feature wins in the past.

"At Berlin we had another fast car all day," says Ryan. "We qualified 2nd and started 5th.

Ryan moved from fifth to second at Berlin, but wasn't able to catch fellow Canadian Mike Ling, who got the feature win.

"Just missed the setup a little bit and had the car a bit too loose," says Ryan. "(Loose) is bad at Berlin because you're constantly turning. We ran a strong 2nd but couldn't put up a serious challenge for 1st."

The Must See Racing series added another race to their schedule to end the season, but it is a non-points invitational. The Xtreme Sprint Cars will join the ISMA Supermodified tour and USAC Regional Midget series at Berlin Raceway on Saturday, September 25. Ryan and the BS&B team will compete in the Sprint Car portion of the event, and Ryan is looking for a ride in the Supermodified event as well.

RYAN LITT: GET OUT THE BROOMS

By Tommy Goudge (September 2, 2010) – London, Ontario driver Ryan Litt had last weekend off, and he’s ready to get back behind the wheel in two big events in Michigan this Friday and Saturday night. Ryan will look to go three for three this season at the Dixie Motor Speedway in Birch Run, Michigan on Friday before heading to the Berlin Raceway in Marne, Michigan on Saturday. Both events will be sanctioned by the Auto Value/Bumper to Bumper Super Sprints series.

The #07L BS&B Radiator/OTC Tools Claxton-powered Beast Sprint Car has been on the shelf since a crash at Salem Speedway on August 8. Ryan spent the following Saturday as a hired gun driving for Wilshe Motorsports at Slinger, Wisconsin in a Must See Racing Xtreme Sprint Series event.

“Slinger was awesome…a really fun place to race,” says Ryan. “The turns are banked super high and even the straightaways have some decent banking - higher than most turns at other tracks. The fans really loved the sprint cars and are excited for us to come back.”

Ryan’s mount for the Slinger race had a 360 cubic inch engine under the hood, as opposed to the 410 engines used by most of his competitors. That didn’t stop him from running the second fastest lap of the day in time trials. Veteran Jeff Bloom was the only driver to beat Ryan’s time.

“The car was unreal at Slinger - fast right out of the trailer,” says Ryan. “We made a gear change and spring change for qualifying and had fast time with two cars to go. Bloom was one of them. Still a pretty good run, all things considered.”

The feature started out well and the car again felt good for Ryan, but problems surfaced.

“In the feature we started ninth and were running about fifth by lap twenty-five,” says Ryan. “I was just riding because of the problem I was having. The car was super fast - I was running it about 75-80% of what it had in it. I think we definitely had the car to beat.”

A hanging throttle was the culprit, and Ryan was eventually credited with a thirteenth place finish. Ryan is still fourth in the Must See Racing series points with one race left on that schedule – September 11 at the Dells Raceway Park in Wisconsin.

“The problem was with the throttle being hung up,” says Ryan. “When I let off going into the corner, it would keep pulling which forced me to ride the brakes a lot, and they eventually burnt off. There was a caution and I couldn’t even run caution speed without killing the ignition. I decided I had no choice but to pull it off. I couldn't even stop for my pit - I had to circle around the pit area until I slowed down enough.”

Ryan would like to thank Don and Suellen Wilshe for the opportunity to drive their car at Slinger, and looks forward to working with them again in the future.

“I would have missed the Slinger race if it wasn't for Don calling me on the Monday after Salem,” says Ryan. “Thanks to Don and Suellen for allowing me to drive for them, and also thanks to Bill, Jenny, and Jay for helping us get the car ready to go. I also need to thank Grimes, and my grandfather Alex and for spending two days in the shop putting the car together during the week.”

Ryan will be back in the family-owned #07L machine this weekend at Dixie and Berlin. The chassis was sent away for repair, and the rest of the car required quite a bit of work after the heavy crash at Salem.

“We just got the frame back from Beast on Sunday,” says Ryan. “We got the car all back together Monday night and fired the engine on Tuesday.”

Dixie and Berlin are two of Ryan’s favourite tracks, and venues where he’s had a lot of success.

Ryan has won both AVSS races contested this year at Dixie, and is looking to make it a clean sweep for 2010 this Friday. A victory at Dixie would run Ryan’s career win total to five at the high-banked 4/10 mile.

Saturday will be Ryan’s first visit to Berlin in 2010, but it’s another place where the #07L has been to victory lane. Ryan has two career feature wins at Berlin, and always runs fast at the 7/16 mile oval.

“(I’m) hoping to win both races,” says Ryan. “We are usually really good at both tracks, so if everything goes as planned it should be a great weekend.”
